Contrasting Capitalisms: From the Bustle of Vietnam to the Hybrid Communism of Estonia

Gazing at the vibrant streets of Vietnam, one witnesses a symphony of industriousness. The ceaseless hustle, the fervent trade, and the unregulated flow of traffic present a mesmerizing dance of life. Here, in this bustling urban arena, a raw form of capitalism thrives, untouched by Western norms. Each individual, from the street vendor to the shop owner, earns their living with integrity and grit.

Against this backdrop, my thoughts wander to Estonia, a land that seems worlds apart from the streets of Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. In Estonia, there's a different rhythm, one influenced by what can be termed as 'hybrid communism.' This small Baltic nation, once a proud beacon of rapid post-Soviet capitalist growth, now leans heavily on Brussels' financial support. The pride and superiority that once came from a capitalist spirit seem overshadowed by a dependency on external aid.

Today, a representative from a renowned firm posed a question that left me stunned: "Where is Estonia? Is it in the Philippines?" Such is the obscurity of Estonia's presence on the global stage, especially when contrasted with Vietnam's palpable vibrancy.

Vietnam, with its genuine entrepreneurial spirit, serves as a stark mirror to Estonia's current state. It offers a lesson in what true capitalism feels like, where each individual is a cog in a vast machine of commerce, working tirelessly, fueled by ambition and aspiration.

Reflecting upon these contrasting landscapes, the streets of Vietnam stand as a testament to the enduring human spirit, highlighting the difference between perceived capitalism and its authentic essence.
